the best

are
not the
ones
who
love
us
because of
who we
are
they are
the
ones
who
love us
in spite
of
it.

I dreamt of you last night.
Of you and I
under a starry sky.
We watched in silence
as
meteors rained down
and
stars streaked across
the sky.
I could
feel
your smile
in the dark.
I awoke
grateful
for
time
we shared
in
silence
under
a
midnight sky.

You are my secret smile
The one that creeps into my eyes
brightening them, adding spark
The one that turns the corners
of my mouth
ever so slightly upward
warming me from the inside out.
You are my Mona Lisa smile
The one that no one understands
No one but you and me.

You can
pierce
my heart
with your
wanting
as it is
too much
like
my own

Words
our life’s blood.
They cleanse
They clarify
They rationalize
They heal
Words
our closest
friends
and
dreaded Enemies
They tie
They bind
They wound
They divide
Words
Our common thread
They ties us
together
Bound by a
common love
They cleanse us
Heal us
when little
else
can
Words
Our current Barrier
They rationalize
the wounds
we inflict
upon
each other
Dividing us
For any kind words
whispered but not heard
The intent
must be more
closely examined
for words
meant to
comfort
missed their mark
For tender
trespasses
of a
too eager
friend
One can
only use
these
meaningless
things
words
to gain
understanding
and
forgiveness
